Fresh from New York City come four great singers, one excellent pianist, and an effervescent MC who is ready to explain it all in this special one-night only performance of Opera Laughing.
This 70-minute review, takes place on Monday night August 4 at 7:30 p.m., sandwiched in between White Heron’s Equity season and the Nantucket Comedy Festival Monday nights at White Heron Theatre, 5 North Water Street. Opera Laughing includes Verdi, Cole Porter, Gilbert & Sullivan, Mozart, Puccini, and Donizetti. Brought to Nantucket by the Wendy Taucher Dance Opera Theatre, the company singers have recently performed with the NY Philharmonic, on Broadway, at Carnegie Hall, and the Metropolitan Opera. Taucher’s casting always includes singers who enjoy acting just as much as singing and who create stage pictures which enhance the music. Donovan Diez, long-time actor, with over 200 national commercials under his belt, hosts the evening, keeping things moving, explaining just enough of each song plot to help you enjoy the music even more.
Featuring some of the most popular beloved opera arias and ensembles, the evening includes tunes in four languages, a bit of Broadway and four singers who are opera-triple-threats. Opera Laughing is terrific for opera lovers who can’t get enough of good singing, and a charming introduction to those who might think of opera as not for them.
Singers performing in Opera Laughing include returning Metropolitan District Awardee Michelle Trovato, New York Festival of Song’s James Martin, Broadway’s Glenn Seven Allen and Erika Person of NY Gilbert & Sullivan Players. The program is directed and choreographed by Wendy Taucher and conducted by Metropolitan Opera Artist Michael Fennelly.
