A piggin: you’ve probably never heard of one, and possibly never even seen one. You don’t know what you’ve been missing… literally. A piggin is a small wooden pail with one stave extended upward as a handle, or in other words, a small bucket-shaped dipper with a long vertical handle. They were used for dipping soft soap, hot water, a small drink of ale (“noggin”), or what-have-you. In these parts they were standard issue in whale boats for bailing out the bilge.
