If you are wondering what happened to the two stores that used to stand in what is now an empty lot on Easy Street, have no fear, Scrub Oak and The Antiques Depot have found new homes! You can now find Scrub Oak in a larger location at 10 Straight Wharf.
The airy, two story building lends itself to owner Sarah Ellis’s creative and eclectic collection of items and allows her more freedom to display her wares. Garden lanterns and colorful chairs decorate the small courtyard and welcome you into the shop. Kites in the shape of ships lazily dance in the breeze, suspended from the high ceilings. The walls are adorned with beautiful artwork, and glass cases hold a unique collection of jewelry. There are gauzy throws and soft linens draped about, and stacks of colorful sunhats to keep you cool. Venture up the stairs and you’ll find a carefully curated collection of women’s clothing, shoes, and gorgeous handwoven purses and bags.
Scrub Oak is the first place I go to when looking for a unique greeting card, so I was happy to discover that the “teal room” from the old location still exists, with a quirky selection of greeting cards, paper goods, and toys you won’t find anywhere else. I am a sucker for a good card, and picked up two on my trip in.
Scrub Oak is a delight to peruse through, with a vibrant and fun collection of items you won’t find in other Nantucket stores. The day I was there a woman was finishing up at the cash register, then decided to have one more look around. She ended up making another purchase, and said she might be back later for more! There is always something new to discover, and the helpful staff is always on hand to answer any questions.
Scrub Oak is open almost daily from 10am-5pm at 10 Straight Wharf.
