AAN Opens St. Valentine’s Day Exhibit Feb. 3

Nantucket Town is quiet, the beaches are wind-swept and empty, and wisps of smoke abound from fireplaces scent the air with a winter coziness, the Artists Association of Nantucket (AAN) is poised to open a special ten-day St. Valentine’s exhibition entitled Art to the Heart.  The gallery door will open on Friday, February 3 at the Cecelia Joyce & Seward Johnson Gallery, 19 Washington Street.

“2023 marks our twelfth consecutive year of presenting a festive St. Valentine’s exhibition, and we are excited to offer this imaginative and inviting show during the cold days of a bleak Nantucket winter,” said AAN gallery director Peter J. Greenhalgh.

“This colorful exhibition will focus on affordable, cheerful, and witty works — featuring bright paintings along with photographs, jewelry, and unique ceramics — perhaps with some hearts and warm tones of red,” added Greenhalgh.

“Each artist has been asked to bring in three works, so we are expecting a robust selection which typically includes some impressive surprises. It truly is a great reason to get out of the house and enjoy the diverse art created by our talented artist members,” said AAN artistic director Bobby Frazier.

“We are delighted to continue our tradition of hosting a Valentines show, which we think of as a celebration of happy colors in this mid-month holiday, and we believe everyone will find the perfect Valentines gift for that special someone in their lives,” said AAN executive director Courtney Bridges.

The Art to the Heart exhibition will be on display from February 3 to 14, at the Cecelia Joyce & Seward Johnson Gallery, 19 Washington Street, in the heart of Nantucket’s Cultural District, a stone’s throw from Main Street. The gallery will be open Monday–Friday 10 am to 5 pm, Saturdays 11 am to 3 pm. It is closed on Sundays.
