The art of craftsmanship will be center stage at the Nantucket Historical Association’s (NHA) 2024 Nantucket by Design event. Held from July 15 to 18, this is the ninth year this premiere fundraiser has presented notable featured guests, memorable conversations, festive gatherings, and dedication to design.
“We made a commitment to further elevate this year’s program, offering more calendar days and, in turn, more speaking engagements. Our headlining speakers set the tone, which is reinforced by the additional A-list luminaries that are joining us in celebrating the island’s creativity, culture, and commitment to craftsmanship,” commented Marla Sanford, Nantucket by Design 2024 co-chair.
The keynote speaker for 2024 is Ken Fulk, an AD100 designer known for his whimsical and colorful style. Seven panel discussions during the event will feature topics that include Nantucket Heritage in Modern Design, Creating with Color, Mixing Antiques and Vintage to Create Stylish Interiors, and Transformative Design.
From 10 am to 1 pm on the opening day, Monday, July 15, the NHA will host a Nantucket by Design Book Fair at the historic Hadwen House, 96 Main Street. This event is the perfect opportunity to meet the authors and purchase books for them to personally sign.
Another addition to the four days of 2024 Nantucket by Design are Nantucket Decorative Arts Workshops. Tickets to classes for Historic Transferware, Woven Bangle Bracelets, Natural Seaweed Stationary, Woven Basket Cuff Bracelet, and Sailors Valentine Ornament are available at nha.org.
Nantucket by Design all-access passes have been sold out, and all seats have been taken to the Design Luncheon. At press time, tickets are still available to three sessions on July 16: Creating with Color at 10 am, Masterclass: Locke & Varney at 12:30 pm, and Perfectly Paired at 2 pm. Tickets are still available to the 4 pm panel on July 17: Mixing Antiques & Vintage to Create Stylish Interiors. And there are still tickets available (at press time) to the July 18 sessions: Transformative Design and Design is in the Details, and to the Closing Party.
Bill Richards, Nantucket by Design 2024 co-chair, describes Nantucket by Design as an event that “not only illuminates Nantucket’s rich historical and design significance but also preserves it for future generations as one of the Nantucket Historical Association’s key fundraising events. We are thrilled to be joined by the incredible roster of design leaders, who lend their talent and voices in support of the NHA’s mission of commemorating Nantucket’s legacy while maintaining historic properties, programs, and collections for the enrichment of the island.”
