The Artists Association of Nantucket (AAN) is delighted to announce the opening of the 2018 10 x 10 Open Exhibition with a reception on Friday September 7, 6–8 P.M., in the Cecelia Joyce & Seward Johnson Gallery, 19 Washington Street. The show will be on display through Monday, September 24.
The majority of AAN exhibitions feature work solely by AAN artist members, however this annual 10 x 10 Open Exhibition is open for participation from the entire island community. Each participant may submit up to seven pieces of work.
Now in its fourteenth year, the 10 x 10 Open Exhibition is a popular and beloved AAN tradition, with every piece in the show measuring 10 inches by 10 inches. The work is hung in a grid-like pattern on the walls throughout the two-story gallery.
“It is always a fascinating show and amazing to see the many different ways an artist approaches a 10 x 10 canvas, all the same size yet each piece has its own individual character,” said Peter J. Greenhalgh AAN gallery manager. “The walls are literally covered in a mosaic pattern that is not often seen in galleries. It is a favorite among our artists as well as our visitors, who come to the gallery to see the works done by their friends, neighbors, and community members.”
The Solo Show Spotlight Artist during this exhibition is Rosemary Glidden, who will also lead an informal discussion at the Spotlight Series Artist talk on Saturday, September 8 at 10 A.M. in the gallery, 19 Washington Street.
The 10 x 10 Open Exhibition will be on display from September 7–24 at the Cecelia Joyce & Seward Johnson Gallery, 19 Washington Street, in the heart of Nantucket’s Cultural District.
