The Nantucket Historical Association (NHA) is offering free admission to its historic sites on Saturday, June 6 and Sunday, June 7 in celebration of Nantucket Preservation Month in partnership with Nantucket Preservation Trust (NPT).
On both days from 11 am to 4 pm, visitors can enjoy free access to the following NHA historic sites: the Fire Hose Cart House at 8 Gardner Street, Greater Light at 8 Howard Street, Old Mill at 50 Prospect Street, and Oldest House at 16 Sunset Hill.
“The Nantucket Historical Association tells the inspiring stories of Nantucket through its collections, programs, and properties,” says Marjan Shirzad, NHA Director of Visitor Experience. “As such, we are thrilled to partner with NPT during Nantucket’s June Preservation Month and highlight the wonderful array of historic sites and inspiring stories the NHA offers to the public on a daily basis.”
While National Preservation Month is usually celebrated in May, Nantucket Preservation Trust is celebrating Nantucket’s Preservation Month in June when more visitors are on the island and able to participate in the many offerings from local island businesses and nonprofit organizations. This year’s proposed theme by NPT is “Preservation is the Ultimate Green.”
“The Nantucket Preservation Trust took the initiative to coordinate Nantucket Preservation Month to achieve our goal, which is to educate, inspire and encourage historic preservation across the island by involving all aspects of our community,” says Marisa Holden, NPT Marketing & Events Coordinator. “Through the support of local business and organizations, our hope is this month-long celebration will engage the island’s community and draw attention the important cause of preservation.”
