Wet Paint Auction Opens October 10

Artists Association of Nantucket (AAN) and Bartlett’s Farm are again partnering: this time to keep the island’s popular Wet Paint Art Show open for a free in-person viewing.

“In past years, during the week leading up to Columbus Day weekend, you could find our AAN artists en plein air painting around the island; however, this year we’re allowing the more than 70 participating artists longer to prepare since the auction will be strictly online,” said AAN executive director, Courtney Bridges. “We’re pleased to be able to offer the community this opportunity to enjoy an art-filled Sunday during the holiday weekend.”

The in-person viewing at Bartlett’s Farm will be held on Sunday, October 10 from 10 am to 4 pm. Face coverings must be worn and Covid 19 best practices will be followed to keep guests and staff safe.

The four-day online auction will also start on Sunday, October 10 at 10 am, and the final bids must be submitted by 5 pm on Wednesday, October 13.

“All of the art in the auction will be recently finished pieces and the preview will consist of paintings, mixed media, ceramics, woodcarvings, and some photography. While there will not be in-person bidding accepted at Bartlett’s Farm, there will be QR codes to direct patrons to the auction site,” added Bridges.

“As guests participate in the online auction, they will also notice there is a buy-it-now component— where pieces may be purchased outright—if, for instance, they find a favorite artist’s work or don’t have time to go back to the online auction before it closes,” said AAN artistic director Robert Frazier.

“We remain grateful to our artists for their participation in this online format. Last year we showcased truly amazing works, and we are so excited to see what our artists submit for this year’s Wet Paint event. Proceeds from the online auction will support AAN’s artist members, arts programs, gallery, and year-round public programs,” added Bridges.
