There’s something wonderfully irresistible about Theatre Workshop of Nantucket’s production of Jimmy Buffett’s Escape to Margaritaville. From the moment the lights come up, Bennett Hall is transformed into a carefree tropical getaway, filled with infectious music, laughter, romance, and the unmistakable good-time spirit of Jimmy Buffett. With more than two dozen Buffett favorites— including “Cheeseburger in Paradise,” “Fins,” “Volcano,” and, of course, “Margaritaville,” the production has exuberant energy that quickly spreads through the audience.
A big part of the show’s appeal is the warmth and professionalism of the Theatre Workshop of Nantucket team. Under the direction of Justin Cerne, with choreography by Abbey O’Brien and music direction by Nevada Lozano, the talented cast brings an easy chemistry and infectious enthusiasm to the stage. The production feels polished without losing its sense of spontaneity and fun, and the performers clearly relish the opportunity to share this upbeat story and music with the audience.
Escape to Margaritaville has the sparkle of a much larger musical. Colorful costumes, evocative scenery, lively lighting, crisp sound, and energetic choreography work together to give audiences an evening to relax and escape.
