This summer season island artists Doug and Deb Sosebee are opening up the spacious, light-filled loft at their new location 8 Washington Street for a series of demonstrations. This week, the featured artist is Jeanne Rosier Smith, whose work will also be on exhibit in the gallery.
Smith has been working with pastels for more than a decade. “I fell in love with the velvety richness, the pure color, the direct touch which pastel alone affords,” she explained. A year in France, where she lived near the sea, inspired a love of the water, which she explores in her well-known and award-winning Wave Series.
Jeanne Rosier Smith has been with Sosebee Studio & Fine Art Gallery since 2009 as their only pastel artis
t. Her July exhibition will begin with an opening reception from 6 to 8 pm this Friday, July 26. The next morning, Saturday, July 27, she will offer a pastel demonstration in the Sosebee Studio & Fine Art Gallery from 10 am to 12 pm. There is no charge for this demonstration, but space is very limited, so pre-registration is important. To save a seat, email the gallery at sosebeestudio@gmail.com. September 13-15, Jeanne Rosier Smith will be back at the Sosebee Studio to offer a three-day workshop from 9 am to 3 pm each day. Registration for that workshop is being accepted now at the gallery.
