Artists Association of Nantucket (AAN) is delighted to announce the opening of the 10 x 10 Open Exhibition in the Cecelia Joyce & Seward Johnson Gallery, 19 Washington Street. Doors open at 10 am on Friday, September 15, with a public reception from 5-7 pm that evening in the gallery. The show will be on display through Monday, October 16.
The majority of AAN exhibitions feature work solely by AAN artist members: however, anyone making art in the island community may participate in this annual 10 x 10 Open Exhibition, giving this show a wide variety of exceptional work. Each artist participant may submit up to six pieces.
Now in its nineteenth year, the 10 x 10 Open Exhibition is a popular and beloved AAN tradition, with every piece in the show measuring 10 inches by 10 inches. The work is hung in a grid-like pattern on the walls throughout the twostory gallery.
“The walls are covered in a mosaic pattern that is not often seen in galleries and it is a favorite among our artists as well as our visitors,” said AAN gallery director Peter J. Greenhalgh. “Many folks come to see the works done by their friends, neighbors, and community members and it is always a captivating show and truly amazing to see the many different works. All the same size, yet each piece with its own individual character,” added Greenhalgh.
The 10 x 10 Open will be on display from September 15 to October 16 from 10 am to 2 pm and 2:30 to 5 pm, at the Cecelia Joyce & Seward Johnson Gallery, at 19 Washington Street, a stone’s throw from Main Street. This award-winning gallery is one of the most comprehensive venues for local art—and again this season AAN is also exhibiting work at their Big Gallery, upstairs at 12 Straight Wharf.
