This weekend, one of Nantucket’s best-known painters will be featured at a special demonstration, artist reception, and exhibition in Sosebee Studio & Fine Art Gallery at 8 Washington Street, just a few steps off Main Street, across from the Artists Association Gallery and The Handlebar Café.
Member of the Nantucket art community since the 1960s, Barbara Capizzo taught on the island and maintained her own gallery for many years. Capizzo paints the quaint streets, beautiful harbors, boats, and beaches of Nantucket in watercolor and oils. “When I’m painting, it’s a calm, peaceful time for me…I lose my stress…sometimes I just can’t wait to get my easel out and paint!” She is a charter member of the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, D.C., the Sarasota Arts Council and Visual Arts Center, and a lifelong member of the Nantucket Artists Association.
The exhibition of her work in Sosebee Studio & Fine Art Gallery will open on Friday, July 10 with a reception from 6 to 8 pm. The following morning, Capizzo will demonstrate her technique in a special workshop from 10 am to 12 noon; to register call the gallery at 508-228-0014.
