Artists Association of Nantucket (AAN) is pleased to host the annual 2013 Nantucket Wet Paint Weekend this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, October 11–13. Wet Paint Weekend offers many opportunities for the island community to meet AAN artists, see them at their easels, and participate in an auction of their works.
“Wet Paint Weekend is truly a highlight of the Nantucket arts calendar and the grand finale of the Nantucket Arts Festival,” said AAN executive director Cecil Barron Jensen. “Over the course of three days, 50 artists’ members will spread out across the island to paint in preparation for a live auction on the Sunday of Columbus Weekend. Every piece auctioned off is freshly painted — or wet.”
Wet Paint Weekend 2013 will kick off on Friday, October 11 in a new location. Visitors are invited to meet AAN members over a glass of wine at Sylvia Antiques, 6 Ray’s Court. The evening will feature an exhibition of art from the association’s historic Permanent Collection — a significant collection of modern Nantucket art dating back to the 1920s.
On Saturday, October 11, member artists will blanket the island, painting en plein air or in their studios. “Curious bystanders are invited to peer over their shoulders to see the view turn into a painted canvas,” said Jensen. Maps to find painting locations will be available at the Coffee with the AAN Artists event held in the Joyce & Seward Johnson Gallery on Saturday morning.
The weekend culminates on Sunday, October 13 with a live auction featuring the freshly painted works. This year’s auction has been moved to The Nantucket Hotel, 77 Easton Street.
