Celebrating Artin a New Gallery

Artists Association of Nantucket (AAN) is inviting members of our island community and visitors to celebrate the opening of their new gallery in the heart of town at 8 Federal Street. This Welcome Home Reception in AAN’s Federal Gallery will be held on Friday, April 25 from 5 to 7pm. The ceremony will begin with a ribbon cutting at 4:30 pm, followed by refreshments and light bites.

“It has been our goal for some time to have one highly-visible flagship gallery in downtown Nantucket,” shared Tracey Sears, AAN Executive Director. This gallery will host a year-round schedule of rotating member shows, artist demonstrations and lectures, and special events. Artistic Director Robert Frazier explains that after renovation, this new location will also feature “increased square footage and a more sophisticated and modern space to display art, offering easy pick-up and drop-off for our artists.”

“As the Artists Association celebrates its 80th anniversary, we are thrilled to build a landmark in the town of Nantucket, our legacy to serve the community for generations to come,” Laurie Champion, Board President, says. “This is an exciting milestone for AAN, and Daffodil Weekend marks the beginning of an action-packed season to come.”

The Federal Gallery is replacing the AAN’s Washington Street gallery and will display a range of works, including oil, acrylic, pastel, watercolor, mixed media, ceramics, and photography.

In addition to this new space, AAN will continue to operate their Big Gallery, upstairs in the Thomas Macy Warehouse at 12 Straight Wharf. From April 25 through May 12, Mellow Yellow, a show depicting signs of spring in shades of yellow, will be exhibited in Big Gallery.

AAN also offers classes and workshops. Tuesday mornings through May 20, they offer a free Family Drop-In session from 10 to 11 am. During this one-hour workshop, kids age 2 to 5 years will build creative skill and confidence in the company of their trusted adults by playing with a variety of materials. AAN also offer one-week Art Camps for children from ages 4-9. Registration for camp sessions and for adult classes is now open at NantucketArts.org
