News and Events for Nantucket Island
Certain birthdays are bigger milestones than others. When a kid hits double digits, for example. That tenth birthday party should have just a little more juice on the fastball, right? Same for the 65th birthday (I’ll tell you all about that one in a few months if, as they say, the creek don’t rise and the good Lord’s willin’).
Wow, it feels so great to win a fishing tournament. What tournament did I win, you ask? Well, not to brag, but I won the Spring Sea Run Opener tournament. In fact, I’ve won it every year that I’ve fished it. And so did every other participant. This tournament has done an amazing job of getting the local beach fishing community involved in supporting a wide variety of Nantucket charities and scholarship funds. Thus, we all win. Big time!
World Cup madness. Wow, my entire X feed is full of it. And it’s been pretty darn fun to follow, for reasons that have not a lot to do with the actual game of soccer (or football, as much of the world calls it).
Tammy King had a vision. She had just been appointed to the board of directors for the Nantucket Anglers Club. This gave Tammy an opportunity to set a plan in motion to make her dream a reality.
Well would you look at that: Memorial Day weekend was a few days ago and Nantucket is insta-busy. Not surprising, of course, but it does feel often sudden this year. Perhaps it’s due to the lack of any real warm weather. Or maybe it’s that this national holiday was celebrated a week earlier than usual this year. Whatever it may be, it’s busy! Joggers, bikers, e-bikers, rental cars, Ubers, summer neighbors, people riding scooters or those crazy big wheel skateboard thingies – the island is very people-y all at once.
