Nantucket by Design, an annual event presented by the Nantucket Historical Association, celebrates Nantucket’s design heritage, intertwining modern style with island history through talks, panels, master classes, and social gatherings.
This year, the five-day experience includes free pop-up events at various historic properties, along with special events also open to the public hosted by Nantucket by Design partners.
Three very special NHA Decorative Arts Demonstrations are being hosted by Nantucket by Design partner Eleish Van Breems Home at their waterfront location, 14 Easy Street. Stop by at 2 pm on Tuesday, July 15, for a demonstration of the art of basket weaving, a Nantucket tradition that weaves together history, art, and iconic island style. On July 16 at 2 pm, all are welcomed to a textile demonstration of traditional hand-blocked fabric. And at 2 pm on July 17, NHA Decorative Arts team will demonstrate the art of the shell in Sailors Valentines.
From July 14 to 17, day-long events will be held at three historic NHA properties. At the Hadwen House, 96 Main Street, relax in style with Handy & Dalliare and enjoy lite bites with Island Kitchen—two of Nantucket’s icons of event style and leaders in entertainment—along with Tillett Textiles.
At the NHA’s beautiful Greater Light, 8 Howard Street, from 10 am to 5 pm July 15 to 18, an exploration of luxury handcrafts will be held where guests can shop beautiful finds from heritage brands and local artisans. In addition, four engaging workshops will be offered by Alpha Kilo, presented with Joe Waroquier HOME, as they launch their inaugural Work/Shop Nantucket. At the NHA’s 1800 House at 4 Mill Street, visitors can step into Porte + Hall’s elevated collection of indoor and outdoor mats, with a selection of Pennoyer Newman planters and home decor from Nina Liddle Design, in a lush garden setting.
