A short stroll down Nantucket’s shell-paved Old South Wharf, a jewelry brand with a heartfelt mission has found a perfect home. LOLA®, which stands for “Love One Love All,” has grown from a vacation inspiration to a beloved jewelry company that turns personal stories into meaningful charms and pendants.
The story of LOLA® begins in 2015, during founder and president Lilith Guerrera’s trip to Spain. “While I was on vacation in Spain, I came across a piece of jewelry that I loved,” Guerrera recalls. “It wasn’t only beautiful, but it meant something to me. So I had an idea: what if every pendant I designed could hold a memory or a special message for the person who was wearing it.”
This moment of inspiration became the foundation for a brand philosophy that continues to drive LOLA® today. Working alongside CEO Laura Brewer of LOLA & Company, Guerrera has created a jewelry line where each piece begins with a story.
Over the years, the business has grown. “The company has evolved from what was originally an online business to a much larger one that encompasses online, wholesale, and three of our own brick and mortar stores in Newport, on Nantucket, and in Newburyport,” Brewer explained. “But the original message of LOLA has always stayed the same; every LOLA piece starts with a story.”
The turning point came with their Nantucket location. “I think the pivotal moment was when we opened the store on Nantucket and retailers from all over the country began to call us to carry our line,” Brewer notes. “Our customers on Nantucket went home to their favorite boutiques and fueled our growth by word of mouth!”
At its core, LOLA® jewelry is about connection and memory. “It could be a bond between two people, a special moment or day, or a reminder to celebrate the relationships that we have,” Guerrera emphasizes. “I design jewelry to be a special keepsake or a special gift for someone to be cherished.”
The process of choosing messages and symbols for each piece is deeply intuitive for Guerrera. “It’s very difficult for me to choose [a favorite]! I am inspired all of the time. I may be drawn to a design, but more often I am drawn to a message that speaks to me, and that message could change every day!”
The intended effect is deeply personal. “Our jewelry is meant to be worn,” Guerrera observes. “I often notice people touching it, rubbing it, like a reminder that it is there and meant to be comforting. A keepsake that should be worn with heart.”
The Nantucket location, affectionately known as “The Love Shack,” came about through serendipity. “I was invited to hold a trunk show at a store that was open on Old South Wharf,” Guerrera remembers. “I immediately fell in love with the wharf and the character of the retail shacks. That’s when the idea of the Love Shack was born.”
The location perfectly captures the brand’s aesthetic. “The retail store fronts on Old South Wharf are old fishing shacks,” Guerrera explains. “Our store is casual, beachy, and reminiscent of those times.” Visitors can find “our entire line of LOLA jewelry and we also have t-shirts, sweatshirts, candles, and other home items that play on the Love Shack name,” according to Brewer.
For a remembrance of a Nantucket weekend, Brewer recommends their most popular local piece: “Most definitely our Nantucket Island pendant, in gold & silver!”
Among LOLA®’s most beloved pieces are their coastal-inspired pendants. “The most iconic design here on the island is our line of Nantucket pendants. We offer the island and a Nantucket basket pendant,” Brewer shares. “But our entire line of coastal pendants such as the oyster shell, sand dollar, and starfish, are also very popular.”
When asked about personally meaningful pieces, both Laura and Lilith have favorites. “I love the daisy pendant,” said Brewer. “The design is reminiscent of my nana.” Guerrera says she cannot pick just one: “I love our new line of tag pendants as well as our original Horseshoe pendant, which brings good luck!” she said.
LOLA® has exciting developments on the horizon. “We have TWO exciting new collections that we will be launching this Fall,” Guerrera revealed. “I can’t give you any details yet, but the collections were well-received at the Atlanta market when we showed them to our customers & retail partners.”
As for the future, the possibilities seem endless: “Honestly, the sky is the limit,” said Brewer enthusiastically. “But we will always call our little Love Shack on Old South Wharf our original home.”
In a world where jewelry can often feel impersonal, LOLA® stands out by returning to the fundamental human desire for connection and meaning. Through thoughtfully designed pieces that carry personal stories and heartfelt messages, Guerrera and Brewer have created more than just accessories—they’ve crafted wearable reminders of relationships and moments that matter most.
