Brewing Up Some Fun
Nantucket isn’t a very big place, but it can still be hard to check everything off your must-see list during your summer stay. One island establishment that most seem to make it to, though, is Cisco Brewers.
There’s something for everyone at the brewery. It’s dog-friendly with beautiful views and tasty food, surrounded by sea breezes and lush gardens. There are puppet shows for the kids and live music for everyone, food trucks galore, and fun of all kinds. And of course, there’s Cisco’s long list of libations produced locally with love.
Passion and a Dare
I looked out over a Nantucket beach one Saturday morning and saw people moving purposefully up and down the beach. I thought these early risers might be vacationers staking out a prime plot of sand for the day or perhaps beachcombing for shells and sand dollars. But as they came closer to the parking area where I stood, I saw that instead of swimsuits they wore long pants and gloves. Instead of beach towels they carried large trash bags. Their t-shirts were emblazoned with “Clean Team,” marking them as members of a very dedicated group of volunteers who help keep our pristine island clear of trash.
The Shops and Studios at 2 Union
by C. Oscar Olson Many buildings on Nantucket house their fair share of history, but not all can hold a candle to the icon that is 2 Union Street. Just a stone’s throw from Main Street behind the Ralph Lauren shop, standing sturdy and proud for nearly 200 years, its […]
‘Sconset Rules
Only one person used a cell phone.
Over Sconset, God sealed his covenant in cerulean blue. A light breeze shuffled the scrub oak leaves in Larsen Park and shifted the straw hat on a woman who had turned down a job offer because it began in August and she just couldn’t go right now.
Take Down Your Feeders
A mysterious bird illness has been plaguing songbirds in the eastern US this summer. The specific cause and mode of spread are still unknown, but it has been spreading. State and federal wildlife officials, researchers, and birders are concerned, and investigations continue to find a cause. With many breeding songbirds on-island, local conservation groups are keeping an eye out for the mysterious illness that has yet to be reported in Massachusetts.
Art Openings this Week
There are art galleries on every street in downtown Nantucket—classic, contemporary, abstract, sculpture, textile art, photography—some with changing exhibitions and others that feature work by a single artist. This Friday, August 6, plan your Nantucket evening around three artists receptions held at galleries in the heart of downtown. Hostetler Gallery […]
