The John F. Kennedy Hyannis Museum and Nantucket’s Dreamland Film & Performing Arts Center will present “Remembering the Sixties” with acclaimed historian Dr. Sergei Khrushchev on August 5, 2015.
Sergei was a teenager when his father succeeded Josef Stalin to become first secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union. Dr. Khrushchev will offer his rare insights into the intense and historic relationship between his father Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev and John F. Kennedy during his years as President. Dr. Khrushchev will share details of the Cuban Missile Crisis when the world found itself on the brink of nuclear war. There will be a moderated discussion followed by an open question and answer period.
Dr. Khrushchev, a Senior Fellow at the Watson Institute of International Studies at Brown University, will also discuss the history of the Soviet missile and space programs, in which he played an active role during the Cold War. From there he will provide guests with a unique view into modern Russia as it has transitioned back most recently from a decentralized society into an emerging super power and what that means for security concerns around the globe.
Tickets to the lecture are $25 at nantucketdreamland.org. A limited number of tickets are being offered to a private reception of Dr. Khrushchev in the Harborview Room of The Dreamland before the lecture.
