“You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll fetch paper towels,” promise national headline comics Karen Morgan and Jim Colliton about their “Laughing Over Spilt Milk” performance set for Saturday, May 31, 7:30 p.m., at the Dreamland Film and Performing Arts Center. Admission to the performance is $20, with tickets available at the door or in advance in the “Performances” section at www.nantucketdreamland.org.
Morgan and Colliton will perform their hilarious comedy about life in the suburbs: mowing grass, talking trash. and the better halves that make us laugh. Wrote one reviewer: “Through stand up comedy, audience participation, and a hilarious couples game show, Morgan and Colliton take audiences on a crazy drive through their very funny neighborhoods.”
Colliton grew up in the suburbs of Boston and has appeared as the featured comedian in venues across the U.S. and Canada. His first comedy album “Stories from the Suburbs” won “Best Comedy Album” from recording and music industry professionals at the Just Plain Folks Music Awards. Morgan, who grew up in the suburbs of Atlanta, now lives in Portland, Maine, and was a finalist in Nickelodeon’s Nick at Night search for the “Funniest Mom in America.”
Morgan’s and Colliton’s appearance benefits Stand Up & Learn, the remarkable experiential youth education effort by Nantucket Comedy Festival that has helped dozens of kids from 8 to 18, including those with learning disabilities and in need of higher functioning social skills, to be creative and confident through conceiving, creating, and performing comedy.
The Nantucket Comedy Festival recently extended its 2013-2014 series of “Find Your Funny” workshops for youth through Monday, June 9, as part of the organization’s year-round program. So far this year, nearly 100 Nantucket children and youth have attended the workshops. Another in the series takes place Saturday morning, May 31, at 10 a.m. in the Dreamland Theater.
