What’s New On Nantucket

Step into Style with Eco-Friendly Shoes

Re by Respoke builds on Respoke’s core mission of upcycling for good, shifting from romantically repurposing designer scarves to addressing a significant global issue by transforming plastic bottles into valuable products. Re products exemplify a collective effort to combat global plastic pollution while promoting sustainability.

With approximately 85% of plastic bottles ending up as waste—taking up to 1,000 years to decompose—recycling is essential. This process helps give the material a new life, ensuring it remains in circulation and out of our environment. Producing a plastic product from recycled material uses 75% less energy than creating one from newly produced plastic, making each Re product a meaningful step toward a more sustainable future.

Re by Respoke footwear is designed to be boat deck friendly, making them perfect for those who enjoy ocean activities. Wearing Re shoes not only keeps plastic bottles out of ocean waters and landfills but also encourages a lifestyle that values and protects our planet. Re by Respoke has three styles: men’s blue pinstripe sport loafers, women’s blue pinstripe espadrilles, and womens pink pinstripe flip-flops.

Biking Through History

The Nantucket Historical Association (NHA) is thrilled to be launching a new Historic Bike Tour this season to expand on narratives of Nantucket history and broaden the scope of history being told by NHA guides. This new two-hour tour will lead participants to iconic NHA historic sites and explore new locations of historic significance throughout town and the surrounds.

This Historic Bike Tour will take visitors back in time, starting in the Ice Age and concluding in the present day. The tour will cover diverse communities and explore their economic and social contributions to the island, as well as how they harnessed the limited resources that can make island life challenging.

The first Historic Bike Tour is on Friday, May 16, with more already scheduled on May 31, June 14, and June 28. Private Historic Bike Tours may be arranged.

A partnership with Young’s Bicycle Shop means the NHA can offer participants a discounted rental of a traditional or e-bike, if they do not have a bicycle of their own. Wireless transmitters will ensure the tour provides quality sound of th e guided stories to each rider throughout the ride.
