The Artists Association of Nantucket’s downtown gallery, the Cecelia Joyce & Seward Johnson Gallery at 19 Washington Street, is now open to visitors for the 2020 season. Their first exhibition is “Summer Small Works,” which will be on display through mid-August on the first floor of the gallery.
“The summer small works is an AAN tradition for artists and customers alike, and we thought it would be extra special to reopen the gallery with this show because there is always such diversity and truly something for everyone,” said gallery manager Peter J. Greenhalgh.
Work by nearly 50 member artists is on display—paintings, ceramics, and photographs that are all originals. To be included, work must be no larger than 13 x 16, and some pieces in the show are as small as 4 x 4.
“This year due to the world-wide pandemic, we are adhering to best safety practices and are only opening the first floor of the gallery; visitors must wear a face covering and we’re allowing only four people in at one time, for the safely of our guests and staff,” Greenhalgh added.
In addition to the in-person exhibit, an online version of the Small Works show opens July 31 on the AAN website at nantucketarts.org/buy-art and will be available there for three weeks.
The gallery is in the heart of Nantucket’s Cultural District, just a few steps off of Main Street down Washington Street, past the Handlebar Cafe. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 10 am to 2 pm and 2:30 to 5 pm.
