Nantucket Atheneum Pass(port) Program
The Nantucket Atheneum is expanding its educational offerings with the launch of The Pass(port) Program, a new initiative offering free museum and experiential passes to library patrons. Library cardholders — both year-round residents and visitors — can borrow passes for complimentary admission to select island museums and Nantucket locations of note.
Each pass admits 4 to 6 people free of charge and is available for a one-time checkout per family per year at the library. Only one pass may be checked out at a time. Quantities are limited and available first-come, first-served. Because the passes are for single-day use and cannot be renewed, patrons are encouraged to visit the Atheneum early to fully enjoy their experiences.
Cardholders should return the passes on or before the due date and in good condition for others to use. Passes should be returned to the library desk in person: do not return passes in the book drop.
This program aims to ignite curiosity, inspire learning, and ensure greater access to Nantucket’s rich cultural offerings. “Our goal is to make art, history, and education more accessible to everyone, regardless of financial circumstance,” said Lisa Lothian, Head of Outreach Services. “We are deeply grateful to our partners who share our vision for equity and community enrichment.”
This collaborative effort is made possible through the generosity and cooperation of local museums and organizations. Maria Mitchell Association, Egan Maritime Institute, and the Coskata-Coatue Wildlife Refuge are the founding members of this initiative. Each is committed to enhancing public access to their exhibits and experiences. The Atheneum believes that supporting shared knowledge strengthens the entire island community.
Any Nantucket Atheneum library cardholder may check out one of The Pass(port) Program passes for a day. Library cards are free to all who apply in person or at nantucket-atheneum.clamsnet.org/MyAccount/eCARD.
