What’s New on Nantucket, 2014 #2

Artist Association of Nantucket

AAN has classes for children, teens and adults in many mediums.

Expanded Class Offerings

Need more art in your life? Check out the expanded class offerings at Artists Association of Nantucket (AAN). The amount of program offerings for both kids and adults has been doubled, which eliminates the wait list frustrations of years past. The children’s program has blossomed into a fuller season, now running for nine weeks from late June to late August. Weekly adult workshops will take place in a rented space at the Nantucket New School. This increase sets the stage for AAN’s upcoming fall move to a new, larger building. To pick the art class that will best enhance your life, check out www.nantucketarts.org or call 508-228-0722.

New Digs for Island Shop

Former Straight Wharf favorite Skirtin Around has skirted right across the road. They’re now located at One Candle Street, which is just across from the Straight Wharf parking lot, between Monelle and Bodega. The store’s look is getting a full makeover to bring customers an all-white, clean atmosphere that is more sophisticated than ever. Owner Lisa Barfuss says, “We’re keeping our signature style of fun, flirty prints with lots of turquoise, pink, orange, and the maritime classic colors, navy and white. Our Nantucket customers love those.” Barfuss is also excited about this year’s new partnership with Moon & Lola, a jewelry and accessories line by pharmacist-turned-designer Kelly Shatat. The lighthearted line is full of goodies just waiting for your custom monogram. Shatat says, “Nantucket exudes a quintessential New England charm that truly captures the essence of the Moon and Lola brand. It’s Nantucket’s historic heritage, idyllic setting and dedication to personal shopping service that attracted us here.”
