“The work of the NHA is about threading the past into the present and understanding our world better. We do that with the stories we capture of people’s lives and the buildings and artifacts we preserve,” says Janet Sherlund, President of the NHA Board of Trustees. “Antiques aren’t just about the past, the same way that museums and historical associations aren’t just about things that are ‘old.’ With a great antique, you can feel the wear and warmth that the piece has witnessed, and admire its place in both history and the present day.”
Managed by the Antiques Council— an organization dedicated to ensuring the quality of antiques and historical works of art— the Antiques & Design Show of Nantucket is the NHA’s premier fund-raising event and supports the organization’s educational and preservation efforts. Now in its 36th year, the show will feature world-class antiques while highlighting more design elements than ever, including the popular Friday morning Designer Panel, as well as a new series of installations by Nantucket designers. This innovative addition features display showrooms from local firms Dujardin Design, Nantucket House Interior Design Studio, and Kathleen Hay Designs.
“As an organization, the Nantucket Historical Association is proud of what the Antiques & Design Show of Nantucket has become,” says Stacey Stuart, NHA Special Events Manager. “This show dovetails perfectly with the Association’s mission to deliver engaging programs and offerings that highlight history in new and exciting ways. We think this year will be better than ever!”
The show opens to the public on Friday, August 2, 2013, at 10 am, after a Preview Party sponsored by Eaton Vance Investment Counsel on Thursday, evening, August 1.
Not to be missed on Friday, August 2, 2013, from 9 to 10 am, is the exclusive 2013 Designer Panel. Moderated by Nantucket and New York-based designer Susan Zises Green, this panel is comprised of some of the top names in the design industry, such as Alessandra Branca, Christopher Drake, Jamie Drake, Brian J. McCarthy, and Alex Papachristidis, who will discuss today’s latest trends in antiques and design. Limited tickets are available for $50 per person.
This year, the NHA is delighted to recognize Elizabeth and Geoffrey Verney as Honorary Chairs. Both Geoff, a past president of the NHA Board of Trustees, and Liz have shown great leadership and a personal commitment to the NHA and its philanthropic efforts throughout the years.
