Yesterdays Island, Todays Nantucket

The Seconds Shop

by Sarah McNamara

Nantucket’s streets are teeming with some of the country’s most stylish people, but who says you have to break the bank just to look good? Prada shoes for $15…a white leather Bergdorf Goodman blazer for $40…J. Crew pants for $4?! The Seconds Shop at 17B North Beach Street is a fantastic place to shop and find great bargains, all while staying within your budget.

The Seconds Shop is run by a friendly group of volunteers who know the store well and are happy to
assist you with your bargain hunting. Brimming with great merchandise to sift through, with racks and racks of gently used clothing, display cases of jewelry, walls covered in art, tables and shelves full of plates, china, and glassware, you never know what you might discover. All the proceeds from their sales go to benefit Nantucket Family and Children’s Services, which helps individuals and their families coping with mental and substance abuse issues. Donations are accepted daily, so their inventory is always changing, and all donations are tax deductible. The Seconds Shop is open year-round, Monday through Friday from 10am to 4:30pm and Saturday from 10am to 2pm. They are located at 17B North Beach Street, on the way to Jetties Beach. Stop in and see what treasures might be awaiting you!
