Jane’s Vanity is devoted to beauty, grace, and form. Jane and Emily regularly travel the international markets of London, Paris, and Milan to hand select the current seasonal offerings. From exciting new talent to independent fashion houses, some existing for well over one hundred years, they look for meticulous attention to detail, a luxurious hand, and a spark of genius.
Some of the lines represented at the event will include loungewear from Morpho + Luna, Elise Anderegg, and Alöe; lingerie from Valery Prestige, Dana Pisarra and Madame Aime; scarves and shawls from Klements and Ambas; and hosiery from Falke and Barazandeh. These cultivated collections are the pinnacle of European craftsmanship: hand produced in small seasonal collections, using the highest quality of materials and construction.
David Hostetler created an entire series of paintings inspired by the mystery and erotic expression that lingerie reveals. He has layered real underwear and bras to the canvases and layered paint over and under to create his paintings. His prints used actual underwear that is painted and pressed onto the paper with verbiage to confront viewer with the complex and ambiguous eroticism of all types of lingerie.
“Nothing equals the voluptuous power of feminine underwear,” declared the Baronne d’Orchamps in her 1907 book Tous Les Secrets de la Femme. Experience it for yourself this weekend at Exposed: Art & Lingerie in the Hostetler Gallery.
