Theatre Workshop of Nantucket opens their 68th season with a playful new adaptation of Jane Austen’s beloved novel, Sense & Sensibility. The tale the fortunes (and misfortunes) of the Dashwood sisters after their father’s sudden death leaves them financially destitute and socially vulnerable. Set in gossipy late 18thcentury England, with a fresh female voice, the play is full of humor, emotional depth, and bold theatricality. Sense & Sensibility examines our reactions—reasonable and ridiculous—to societal pressures.

Directed by Theatre Workshop’s Producing Artistic Director, Justin Cerne, the production brings together a cast of fifteen actors, including a mix of local and visiting talent, and features original recordings by island musicians Mollie Glazer and Isaiah Williams. Set design by Jeffrey Petersen is stunning and painterly and transporting…unlike anything seen before in Bennett Hall. The costumes by designer Casey Boukus create the rich regency feel with contemporary flourishes.

The curtain goes up at 7 pm on June 5-8, 11-15, and 18-22 with a 2 pm matinee on Sunday, June 16. Tickets may be purchased at theatrenantucket.org
