Artists Association of Nantucket is pleased to announce the upcoming exhibition Art From the Schools, opening to the public Friday, March 14 and on display through Sunday, March 23 in the AAN Big Gallery, upstairs at 12 Straight Wharf. Hours for this gallery show are 11 am to 5 pm.
Exhibition reception and awards for Art From the Schools will be held Saturday, March 22, from 10 am to 12 noon. The Lloyd Schultz Awards for Excellence in Art at the High School Level will be presented.
“Each year since 1950, we celebrate the talented art teachers and students on Nantucket by offering them the opportunity to display artwork in our gallery,” explained AAN Artistic Director Bobby Frazier. “It’s great for the children to experience their work hanging in a professional gallery, and great for the community to see art from across grade levels that is being taught in the island’s different schools.”
Student works will be featured at the reception on March 22, 10 am to 12 noon. Several high school students will receive AAN’s annual Lloyd Schultz Awards, presented in partnership with the Nantucket Arts Council.
Now in their 80th year, AAN has been hosting Nantucket student art shows for 75 of those years and has a long history of supporting arts and artists on Nantucket island. “It fits within our mission to foster young artists,” said Frazier. “It is our hope that some of the students who show in the gallery this month will someday exhibit as artist members.”
