The fun family program presented by Egan Maritime will be free to all on Tuesday, August 7 from 10 am to 2 pm at the Nantucket Shipwreck & Lifesaving Museum located at 158 Polpis Road. Family Day has been an annual family program during July and August since the museum reopened its doors in 2008 following a $3-million campaign and renovation project. Usually the fun is included in the price of admission.
Family Day includes free museum admissions and activities including a scavenger hunt, nautical arts and crafts, shipwreck stories, and outdoor play. The museum’s grounds are home to adventurous and lifesaving-inspired features such as the breeches buoy swing set, the ship’s rigging ropes wall, and a play-size surfboat. Additionally, there is a picnic area with a scenic view of Folger’s Marsh and a play-size Massachusetts Humane Society Beach Hut.
This gift of free historical experiences and memories for Nantucket families is thanks to the generosity of Ritchie, Katie, and Westray Battle. The Battles are beloved museum patrons “who love Nantucket and the preservation of its iconic maritime history for our children.”
Egan Maritime’s Nantucket Shipwreck & Lifesaving Museum is located at 158 Polpis Road, just 3.5 miles from downtown Nantucket. Hours of operation are Monday through Saturday, 10 am to 5 pm and Sundays noon to 5 pm. For more information visit eganmaritime.org
The Nantucket Shipwreck & Lifesaving Museum will host a second free Family Day on Saturday, September 15.
