Dozens of participating vendors will provide creative ideas for aging, with solutions in housing, safety, health and fitness, finances, continuing education, volunteer opportunities, arts and entertainment, and caregiving. Some will offer demonstrations and samples. During the three-hour event, a three speakers will present their ideas for aging healthfully and enjoyably.
At 10:30 am, retired physician Dr. Stephen Chase will share “Secrets on Healthy Aging.” Dr. Chase, who worked for many years in Nantucket Cottage Hospital’s emergency department, is a longtime distance runner. He has taken up cycling in retirement, and recommends regular exercise as part of aging healthfully.
Free flu shots (up to 100) will be available to attendees who provide proof of insurance. Door prizes will be awarded every hour.
Elder Expo is co-sponsored by the Nantucket Council on Aging and Nantucket Center for Elder Affairs, which operates the Saltmarsh Senior Center.
The Senior Center is the social and recreational place for active people 60 years and older. The council acts on behalf of elderly residents, 60 years and older and is responsible for addressing the needs of Nantucket elders, providing programs for seniors that will enhance quality of life; encompass nutritional, educational, recreational, and social needs. We provide information and lectures regarding health care, legal services, social security and changes to federal and state laws which pertain to the elderly.
