Artists Association of Nantucket (AAN) is pleased to announce the opening of a special exhibition entitled Brush Fires/Paper Chases, with a reception on Friday, May 1, from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Cecelia Joyce & Seward Johnson Gallery at 19 Washington Street.
“This spring exhibition has two facets, one stressing dramatic subjects and the other focuses on works on paper,” said AAN curator of exhibitions Robert Frazier. “We rarely have multiple thematic shows within one exhibition, so I believe this will provide an interesting juxtaposition of styles.”
This season the gallery will host fourteen different exhibitions, but this is the only one that will emphasize two elements within one show, mixed between the first and second floors. “Paper Chases will feature works-on-paper including printmaking media, watercolors, collage, pencil drawings, oils on paper, pen and inks, paper mache, photographs, and anything done on paper,” added Frazier. The Brush Fires portion of the exhibit includes works on canvas, board, and photographs with dramatic, bold colors and expressive thematic materials. “We look forward to showcasing what our members produce for this exhibition,” said Frazier.
AAN promotes over two hundred and thirty artist members—whose work includes jewelry, oil paintings, watercolors, ceramics, sculptures, mixed media, photographs, and encaustic works.
Brush Fires/Paper Chases exhibition will continue to be on display until Monday, May 11. The Cecelia Joyce & Seward Johnson Gallery, open Monday through Saturday from 11 am to 5 pm, is a short stroll from Main Street down Washington Street.
