Cart locations will keep you guessing throughout the week as Pop Up Science makes it’s way around town. It will usually appear in the afternoon, but once in a while you might find the cart while getting your morning cup. It might be a little more “British” than usual one day, and on another you might find the cart while shopping for outdoor gear, or while searching for the perfect summer novel in the same place where Maria Mitchell was the first librarian. Keep your eyes peeled for the cart and stop by to watch the show and learn something new about science.
In the Fall of 1847, Maria Mitchell was scanning the sky with her family’s telescope. She discovered a comet that night, and went on to live a life and pave a path worthy of recognition. Founded in 1902, the Maria Mitchell Association has worked for more than a century to preserve the legacy of Nantucket’s daughter and native astronomer, naturalist, librarian, and educator: Maria Mitchell. The Maria Mitchell Association operates two observatories, a natural science museum, an aquarium, a research center, and preserves her historic birthplace on Nantucket. A wide variety of science and historyrelated programming is offered throughout the year for people of all ages.
