The June Artist in Residence at the VAC is Frank Costantino. A first-time visitor to AAN, Frank is an artist from Winthrop, MA who specializes in painting en plein air. He will teach a Plein Air Watercolor class at Brant Point on June 15 and 16. In conjunction with the class, he will also give an demonstration during AAN’s 2016 Plein Air Nantucket painting festival at Brant Point on June 15 at 9 a.m. To round out his stay, Frank will exhibit his work and judge the art in the 2016 Plein Air Nantucket exhibition on Sunday, June 19, at the Cecelia Joyce and Seward Johnson Gallery, 19 Washington Street.
“Frank is a talented watercolorist,” said AAN adult education program director Mary Emery Lacoursiere. “As an Artist in Residence, he will stay in AAN’s studio apartment for his visit and work in one of the VAC’s new studios,” said Lacoursiere. “We invite artists and art enthusiasts to come and meet him while he is on island.”
“It’s unusual to see a watercolor artist paint en plein air,” said Lacoursiere. “It should be quite inspiring to see him working with this medium at Brant Point. Even if people don’t want to join the class, they should come and see him do his demonstration. It will be fascinating.”
Registration information for the Plein Air class is available at Nantucketarts. org. The Brant Point demonstration will take place on Wednesday, June 15 at 9 am, during his Plein Air class. The AAN’s 2016 Plein Air Nantucket exhibition will be held on Sunday, June 19 at the Cecelia Joyce and Seward Johnson Gallery, 19 Washington Street. The exhibition reception starts at 6 p.m. with the presentation of the Frank Swift Chase Awards.
