Mother’s Day Concert on Nantucket

The award-winning acapella group North Shore Acapella returns to Nantucket for Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 10 at 4 p.m., in the Dreamland Film & Performing Arts Center, presented with Nantucket Arts Council as part of the spring 2015 Downtown Celebrity Concerts.
Performing nationally for over 30 years, the group won the “U.S. National Harmony Sweepstakes” in San Raphael, California, in 1991 and was runner-up in 2010.  For the 2011 season of NBC’s a cappella vocal competition “The Sing Off,” they were finalists from among 250 groups chosen for the nationally televised show. Reviewers have called North Shore Acappella “warm and funny singers, with class, style and heart,” who “make it impossible not to sing along and tap your feet.”
On Nantucket, the group will perform popular hits from the 1940s to the present, in a unique blend of harmony, rhythm and tempo, with many songs in the style known as “doo-wop.”  Their repertoire includes such favorites as “Going to the Chapel,” “Blue Moon,” “Mack the Knife,” “I Only Have Eyes For You,” a Beatles medley and many others.  Their appearances have include Symphony Hall in Boston and as opening acts for The Temptations, The Platters, Benny King. and Roberta Flack.  In recent years, they have performed to sold-out houses on Nantucket and at the Great Waters Music Festival in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire.
Tickets are $30, and can be purchased by going to Concerts under the Programs link on NantucketDreamland.org or by calling the Dreamland box office at 508-325-4822.  For more about Nantucket Arts Council, see NantucketArtsCouncil.org.
