“Every Voice Counts” in TWN Show for Kids

Seussical | Nantucket, MA

In addition to one of the world’s most popular musicals, Grease (running at Bennett Hall until August 24), Theatre Workshop of Nantucket is also producing Seussical the Musical this summer. This fun, vibrant, family-friendly production is based on the works of genius children’s author Theodor Seuss Geisel, known as Dr. Seuss . The musical follows the story of Horton the Elephant who finds a dust speck that is home to a town of very tiny people called Whos. Horton does his best to protect the Whos, and this upbeat and colorful show tells a heartfelt tale of standing up for one’s beliefs and standing up for and protecting others, especially the most vulnerable among us.

The musical brings to life some of Seuss’ most beloved characters including Horton the Elephant, The Cat in the Hat, Gertrude MsFuzz, Amazing Mayzie, and JoJo, a little girl with a big imagination who believes in Horton as he believes in the Whos.

Directed and choreographed by Hannah-Jo Weisberg, with musical direction by Nick Wilders, Seussical is a professional production created for children and families. “I’ve wanted to do a show like this for many years, and I’m thrilled that we are able to offer this high quality, professional theatre experience for kids this season,” said Theatre Workshop’s Artistic Director, Justin Cerne.

The stellar cast of Grease will be doing double duty this summer, doing Grease in the evenings and Seussical in the mornings and afternoons. “We have these amazingly talented actors here for the summer already, and using them in a show for families seemed like a great way to do what we do which is, create high quality theatre, for a different segment of the community that we haven’t really reached before,” said Cerne.

All tickets for Seussical the Musical performances are just $15. Performances begin this Saturday, July 23 and continue through August 10, with curtain times at 10:30 am on Tuesdays and Thursdays and at 1 pm on Saturdays.
