The Artists Association of Nantucket (AAN) is delighted to announce that the Editors’ of Yankee Magazine have named the Artists Association of Nantucket’s Cecelia Joyce & Seward Johnson Gallery as the Best Art Gallery in New England for 2014.
“We are quite delighted with this unexpected honor and are thrilled to be acknowledged by such an old and established publication,” said AAN executive director Cecil Barron Jensen. “The fact that we are the only art gallery mentioned as editors’ choice in all of New England is a wonderful tribute to our talented artists and capable AAN team.”
“More than 240 active artists belong to the Artists Association, which mounts changing exhibitions of their work in a two-level gallery space. Many focus on island scenes, so it’s a great opportunity to take a fresh look at Nantucket’s beaches, marshes, and weathered old buildings through the eyes of an artist,” writes Yankee.
“The May/June issue has just hit the stands, thus is quite timely considering the gallery has recently reopened for our 69 season. This impartial distinction is marvelous because it not only recognizes the amazing range of our artists, it is a terrific credit to our entire organization,” said AAN gallery sales manager Peter J. Greenhalgh. “It’s a proud moment for all of us.”
The AAN includes more than 200 artist members who display their work during fourteen changing exhibitions throughout the season including island-made jewelry, oil, acrylics, & watercolor paintings, ceramics, sculptures, mixed media, photographs, and encaustic works.
The Cecelia Joyce & Seward Johnson Gallery is located at 19 Washington Street, and is open Monday through Saturday from 11 am to 5 pm.
