OBOI Organizers Are Seeking Suggestions for the 2024 Book Selection

For nearly two decades, One Book, One Island (OBOI) has united the intrepid residents of Nantucket Island throughout our raw, cold, and windy winter months. This collaborative community project, is designed to promote reading and community and encourage the whole population to read, reflect, and engage in themed activities that foster life-long learning for all ages. We also strive to be inclusive of a variety of audiences and reading levels and to select a title that is available in alternate translations and formats.

This time of year is especially cold and quiet, and OBOI serves a bright occasion for widely sharing a sense of community warmth. All events are offered at no charge, and hundreds of copies of the chosen book are given out every year.

During the first part of January, until January 23, the Nantucket Atheneum is soliciting book choices from our island community. If you’d like to suggest a book to be the 2024 OBOI choice, fill out the form on the Atheneum’s OBOI website. The organizers ask participating teams to consider the books they suggest based on quality, accessibility, and relevance to our richly diverse island.

Join the OBOI organizers in the co-creation of some winter cheer. The Nantucket Book Foundation nominated the 2023 winning selection: The Soul of an Octopus, by Sy Montgomery. Discover past OBOI selections and other library services and activities at Nantucketatheneum.org.
