Jeweler's Design Featured in Museum

Jewelry designer Reubin Simantov of R. Simantov, Inc. of New York and Nantucket recently participated in the opening celebration of the new wings of the Headley-Whitney Museum, an internationally-recognized decorative arts museum founded by prominent 20th-century jewelry designer, George Headley.  In addition to sharing his expertise in a special lecture that day, Simantov also donated one of his exquisite custom designs to the museum.

“I was thrilled to participate in the launch of the new wings of the Headley-Whitney Museum, and to lecture there on the same day that Mrs. Mary Lou Whitney was honored.  I was also deeply moved to be able to find such a fantastic home for my piece "The Grazing Horse," in a place where its beauty will always be appreciated.  It was really a dream come true for me—one of the most special moments of my career,“ Simantov explained.

The gem Simantov presented to the museum is a brooch created from a Colombian emerald of nearly 17 carats that features an intaglio of a grazing horse.  The brooch is framed by a rope design of diamonds, silver, and green enamel.

"It's a wonderful horse piece," he said. "The color was so intense so we thought it was Kentucky Bluegrass material....It's one of my masterpieces."

An award-winning, contemporary designer, Simantov is know for crafting beautiful art pieces which Illustrate the playfulness and whimsical beauty that can be created with unique combinations of metal and precious stones. He uses time-honored techniques “to create fine treasures reminiscent of historic styles with touches of modern elegance.”
