Nantucket Land Council (NLC), an island organization dedicated to protecting Nantucket’s natural world and rural character, is hosting two opportunities in a week to be out in nature and enjoy our island’s beauty.

Nantucket Land Council Tagging Monarch Butterflies
Nantucket Land Council The afternoon of Wednesday, September 27, the Land Council is inviting the public to join them in tagging monarch butterflies. The Nantucket Land Council works with the non-profit Monarch Watch, which has been monitoring the migration patterns of monarch butterflies for over 25 years. Tagging season here began September 1 under the guidance of Resource Ecologist Emily Molden; the gathering on September 27, is open to all ages. “We’ll bring nets and tags so you just need to bring yourself and a sense of adventure.”

To join the fun, get out into nature, and hunt for monarchs call the Nantucket Land Council office at 508-228-2818 to register and find out the meeting location. Participants should wear long pants and closed-toe shoes to comfortably explore the areas where monarchs like to feed. This is a free event.
