The White Heron Theatre is bringing their fifth annual New Play Workshop Collaborative to Nantucket. The collaborative serves as an incubatorlike setting that is dedicated to helping develop new productions. This year features Fireflies by Tony-nominee Matthew Barber, whose adaption of Enchanted April received critical acclaim. The workshop is a collaboration between the White Heron Theatre and the venerated Long Wharf Theater. LWT will present Fireflies in its upcoming season with a cast that includes Judith Ivey, Marsha Mason, Jeff McCarthy, and Scott Drummond.
Gordon Edelstein, the Long Wharf Theatre Artistic Director, is workshopping the play with the playwright and a stellar cast of actors. The New Play Workshop Collaborative will culminate in a must-see two nights of readings: 7:30 pm Friday, June 30 and Saturday, July 1 at White Heron Theatre at 5 North Water Street.
Last year’s workshop collaboration featured Napoli, Brooklyn by Meghan Kennedy. The play’s great success led to its opening on Broadway with the Roundabout Theatre Company this past spring. Be among the first to see Fireflies as it begins its journey go Broadway. Tickets at whiteherontheatre.org.
